Pot learning

 ghara

This incident appeared in 1992, I had boarded train from Chitrakut to come back to Delhi. The rush was less, opposite to me a Mahatma was sitting while a local businessman was sitting on the side seat. In India it was normally seen when Trains stop on railway station, lot of vendors board the train. It was around 7 pm when a station came and likewise local vendors boarded the train. Some sell peanuts, hot ready snacks, some used to carry mud pots filled with water and sell. Likewise on such a occasion I saw a young kid boarding the train with the mud pot. Immediately the local businessman called the kid ‘aye come here’ The kid filled a mud glass(kulhar mug) with water and came to the business, before taking the glass, he asked “how much” The kid replied “25 paise” “Give for ten paisa” the business said Kid did not say anything but smiled and poured the water back and moved forward. Mahatma sitting across me got up and walked behind the Kid, after sometime he came back and sat on his seat. I was watching him and he too knew that we both had seen what was happening. The Mahatma said “I had gone after the kid and asked him why he was smiling and walked away without giving the water. The kid replied that the person had just asked the price of water, he was not thirsty, for someone who is thirsty would first drink water and then give the money. ” We both smiled at the great truth provided at that moment. So true, for someone to attain Divine and to gain success in life, one does not get into ego hassles, argue to prove something, one just pursues the path to attain it, He has to have the thirst for it. Those who keep arguing and fighting to prove their ego as prominent fail miserably in all paths of Sadhana be it spiritual or material. ~Maitreya
