Is saving Mother Earth our responsibility?

The question is not of earth but of us – the human beings. If we want the survival of life on the face of earth, it is essential that work is done by people. Most people simply feel they have done enough. They watch movies, go to the pubs, have dance parties but they shall not spend money on saving fellow citizens. In all the metropolitan cities, you can see slums growing, which are just creating havoc on the city.

In the rural areas of the developing world, enough jobs are not there; neither can you find people interested to work for they feel that the government will do everything. They have no dreams for themselves. They slaughter animals, cut trees for their day to day survival, but they are not aware of the whole concept of ‘karma bhava’ neither they will be made aware of the problem they are causing.

Industries, townships, cities, apartments throw waste into the rivers which find their way to the ocean and since the ocean occupies 75 per cent of the earth surface they feel there is no problem. They do not realize that a polluted river causes harm by way of killing fish and sea life, killing animals. This indirectly works on the ocean also.

The sky has lowered itself but the earth still has a long way to meet it. A creation by our great grandparents, grandparents, parents is to be resolved by us; if not, then the future generations will again suffer due to the closed ideas and concepts that people have developed and nurtured over thousands of years. People, in the name of religion, have destroyed city after city. Now technology is the new religion which goes far ahead in the process of destruction.

This can be resolved only when man stops to think and is able to find time to devote to the betterment of people in all honesty. If this happens, then and only then we can move back in time where spiritualism and science co-existed; where Shankara and Bhaskaracharya co-existed. This is what the effort is all about. Slowly we have to work on it. It takes time and patience and nothing happens in a jiffy but slow and continuous efforts will show the path.
