The 64 Siddhis (supernatural powers or divine attainments) are spiritual abilities. They arise from deep meditation, yogic practices, and mastery over energy. These powers are mentioned in various traditional scriptures and more so in Tantric Scriptures. These include the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, Bhagavata Purana, and Tantra texts.
Most people are aware of the 8 Maha Siddhis (Ashta Siddhis). But, in reality there are 64 Siddhis. They go quite deep in the explanation of the gaps that one feels and realizes within the scriptures
Categories of the 64 Siddhis
The 64 Siddhis can be grouped into different categories based on their functions and powers:
1. Ashta Maha Siddhis (8 Great Siddhis) : These are the most powerful supernatural abilities and mostly known to the people:
- Anima – The ability to become as small as an atom.
- Mahima – The ability to expand infinitely.
- Garima – The ability to become infinitely heavy.
- Laghima – The power to become weightless or levitate.
- Prapti – The ability to acquire anything instantly.
- Prakamya – The power to manifest desires and travel anywhere.
- Ishatva – Divine rulership and supreme control over nature.
- Vashitva – The ability to control minds and elements.
2. Manas Siddhis (Mental and Psychic Powers)
- Dūrashravana – Clairaudience (hearing distant sounds).
- Dūra-darśana – Clairvoyance (seeing distant places).
- Manojava – The ability to travel at the speed of thought.
- Para Chitta Jñāna – The power to read minds.
- Adrishta Darshanam – The ability to see invisible beings.
- Kāla Jñāna – Knowledge of past, present, and future.
- Prarthana Siddhi – Instant fulfillment of prayers.
- Sankalpa Siddhi – Manifestation of thoughts into reality.
3. Sharira Siddhis (Body-related Powers)
- Kāya Siddhi – The ability to make the body disease-free and immortal.
- Vayustambhan – The power to stop the movement of wind (prana control).
- Jalastambhan – The ability to control water.
- Tejastambhan – The ability to withstand extreme heat or fire.
- Sharira Laya – The power to dissolve the body at will.
- Chāyā Siddhi – Controlling one’s shadow and reflections.
- Vishuddhi – Immunity to poison.
- Urdhvajānu – The ability to float or rise above water.
4. Bhuta Siddhis (Mastery Over Elements)
- Panchabhuta Jaya – Complete mastery over the five elements.
- Agni Sakti – The power to create and control fire.
- Vayu Sakti – The power to control the air element.
- Jala Sakti – The power to walk on water.
- Prithvi Sakti – The ability to become one with the earth.
- Akasha Gati – The power to travel through space effortlessly.
- Meghakarshana – The ability to summon clouds and rain.
- Jalakarshana – The power to draw water from any source.
5. Rasayana Siddhis (Alchemy and Transformation)
- Svarna Siddhi – The ability to transform any metal into gold.
- Navanidhi Siddhi – Mastery over the nine treasures (Nidhi).
- Chyutasarira – The ability to exit the body at will.
- Bhutajaya – Control over spirits and astral beings.
