A Teaching from the Path of Awareness
क्षमा बलमशक्तानाम् शक्तानाम् भूषणम् क्षमा।
क्षमा वशीकृते लोके क्षमयाः किम् न सिद्ध्यति॥
Meaning – Forgiveness is the power of the powerless. Forgiveness adorns the powerful. Forgiveness has controlled this entire world. What cannot be achieved by forgiveness!
The shlokas are pointing to a major aspect of life. It is about honors and respect. These values allow one to go deeper within oneself. This introspection is necessary to gain awareness of the self rightfully. Forgiveness offered without the heart’s desire has no relevance. It should never be against freewill.

The Guru sat beneath the ancient peepal tree, his eyes reflecting the stillness of the mountains. A disciple approached, burdened with guilt and trembling words: “Gurudev, I have hurt my family. Should I ask for their forgiveness?”
The Guru closed his eyes. He spoke softly: “If your heart seeks forgiveness, offer it, not as an exchange, but as a prayer. Yet do not ask for it to relieve your guilt. Ask only to honour their pain. To ask for their forgiveness is to seek to mend the broken bond. But the true act lies in the quiet resolve to not repeat the hurt. Go to your family. Speak your truth with an open heart. Do not demand their pardon, but instead, show them your sorrow and your commitment to change. Whether they grant you forgiveness or not, you will find peace in having done what is right.”
He continued: “True healing does not come from begging pardon. It comes from transforming your presence. Let your actions become your apology. Let your silence carry your sincerity. Let your steadiness rebuild trust.”
“Do not ask for forgiveness to be accepted again. Ask yourself: Have I truly changed? If you have, the universe will reflect it. If you haven’t, words are hollow.”
The disciple wept; it was not from shame, but from awakening.
Stop telling people to forgive just because “it’s family.”
This advice, though the intention is good, often silences the very wounds that need to be acknowledged.
Because let’s be real:
Family should be the one to protect and not to break the one. Family should have protected one, for it is a safe ground, not a battlefield. People look for hand-holding during times of struggle and not create scars on the soul.

Remember that Blood alone does not excuse betrayal,
Blood alone does not erase pain.
And blood alone does not entitle anyone to the peace I’ve bled to rebuild.
Forgiveness cannot be demanded. It is not a shortcut to avoid accountability. It is not a band-aid slapped over wounds that are still open and bleeding. Real forgiveness grows when there’s real change, real acknowledgment, real remorse. Without that, forgiveness is just forced silence.
One is allowed to guard the peace without guilt. Protect one’s children. Protect the sacred home one has built within. Even if it means protecting it from those who share the last name. If the boundaries drawn are disturbing people around you, then understand that family is not defined by DNA. Family is defined by presence. It is defined by respect and by truth. It is characterized by those who show up again and again with love that doesn’t wound.
It is considered rebellion. In reality, it is survival and healing. Moreover, it is choosing oneself. Many relatives feel uncomfortable. Let it happen. Because you need to know that your soul’s safety is worth infinitely more than anyone’s comfort.
Family is not who you’re born to. Family is who your soul feels safe with.
